6/18/2023 0 Comments Fl studio vs ableton reddit 2020![]() ![]() I encourage you to get the (infinitely long and save-only-no-load) FL demo to fiddle with, as well as the Ableton 30 day trial to see what works best for you. A delay put before compression will have it's delayed sounds compressed, while a compressor put before a delay will have it's compressed sounds delayed and echoed. is all there (and in some FL native plugins, but that's a little redundant IMO)Įffects are applied top to bottom, in order. Delay, Reverb, Distortion, Chorus/Flanging, etc. In each and every track is 10 slots which you can fill with all the effect plugins you could possibly want. That would break space-time and I recommend you follow the laws of physics in that respect. It is impossible to create a loop this way. You can also thread mixer tracks to other mixer tracks, using the arrows at the bottom of the Mixer UI. Keep it only to similar drums, like hi-hats, or instances where mixing benefits from putting multiple things on a single track, like a kick and a clap (for limiting/compression). Multiple plugins can go to a single mixer track, though I'd recommend to keep this to a minimum. Next to each plugin is a number this number corresponds to a track on the mixer. Where the Playlist, Patterns, Plugins, and Piano roll tie into the mixer is in the plugin assignments. Similar method for samples, though you can also drag-and-drop almost every sample you find in FL (in some way) into the playlist.įL's mixer is also straightforward. Using the paint tool for this is easier, as you can click and drag to put down patterns in a row. You click on the playlist to put down a pattern. The pattern editor has two ways of inputting notes a method tuned to single-sample drums (a basic button-style UI), and a method tuned to multi-sample drum kits and instruments (a piano roll). You can have multiple different plugins controlled in a single pattern. Patterns hold data in the form of notes said notes control a single plugin, whether that be a basic sampler, a VST, or a native FL plugin. My mix was a little higher quality with Ableton, but with FL I still had work to do.įL's playlist is straightforward everything is a pattern or a sample. A cost of that, though, is that it's less tuned to mixing, from what I could tell. I could barely begin to scratch the surface when I tried it out.įL, on the other hand, is much more straightforward. That's how you make a professional track.Ībleton's workflow is a bit of work to fully understand. Ableton is equal to FL in that respect you should work with what's comfortable to you and what gives you the most creative freedom. They can both make a great track a good track is made with skill, not the DAW. ![]() SO what do you guys recommend? And what are your personal Cons/Pros of the current version of each Application?Ĭoming from someone who mainly uses FL and has fiddled with Ableton only a little bit īoth of these are DAWs. I've read post about this topic but have heard about new updates to each program and wanted to ask to see if any opinions have changed as of the current state of each piece of software. I have a lot of people i know saying they have been switching to Abelton but i've also have been hearing a lot of good things about FLs new updates. I know each program has many uses i'm sure i will take advantage of as i learn it, but as of now i'm just looking for whatever would be best for recording vocals & Instrumentals together just as a basis as i learn how to use other aspects of the program. I don't mind putting in the time to learn either or i know they both have their own learning curve. I'm new to DAWs coming from recording stuff on audacity and wanna make the projects i do feel more professional. I know they have similar prices and very different work flows. I'm currently trying to pick between these two DAWs.
